In 2022, chef and restaurateur Ben Bayly and business partners Chris Martin and Lucile Fortuna opened Origine in Commercial Bay – a modern bistro bringing together French inspiration and exceptional New Zealand produce.
Four years later, in October 2026, Origine enters a new chapter. Relaunched as Origine, a Bistro by Ahi, the restaurant has evolved into a distinctly New Zealand bistro, aligning more closely with the food philosophy of sister restaurant Ahi, also located in Commercial Bay. While one Michelin-starred Ahi offers a refined expression of New Zealand cuisine, Origine brings a more relaxed bistro approach, retaining the warmth, generosity and spirit that have been part of the restaurant from the beginning.

Located above the waterfront in downtown Auckland, Origine enjoys sweeping views across Waitematā Harbour. Our menu follows the seasons, bringing together produce from the Ahi Kitchen Garden and some of New Zealand’s best growers and suppliers, reflecting our passion for exceptional local ingredients and contemporary New Zealand cuisine.
